ChatGPT has taken the media by storm, with many claiming that it could be the model that actually takes over Google. While I personally think this is far from the case (ehem, Google Sparrow, anyone?), there’s no contending with the fact that ChatGPT was more popular and widely accepted than anyone could have imagined.

Whether you think ChatGPT (and other language models) will catapult us to the next tech wave or you think it’s overhyped, there are a few questions you should really ask yourself before using one of these platforms:

  • What technology (GTP3?) do ChatGPT and other alternatives base their models on?
  • What year was the information pulled from? (Many of them are from prior to 2021, and some are real-time data).
  • Do they filter out incorrect answers, bias, or spread of false information?
  • Can I trust the answers that the model gives me? Does the chatbot provide references?

While we’re still in the beginning stages of this technology, it’s important to understand its limits in order to appropriately use them.

So with that, here are the best ChatGPT alternatives that I’ve personally tried. You may find others missing from my list that are on others, but that’s because they really aren’t worth your time.

What Are The Best ChatGPT Alternatives?

Here are the best ChatGPT alternatives if you’re looking for a chatbot that’s not frequently at capacity.

1. Jasper Chat

Great for Content Generation

JasperChat is ChatGPT competitor when it comes to textual content creation. For those that are not familiar with Jasper, they’re set to become one of the biggest names in generative AI with the goal of being a one-stop shop AI content platform. They offer AI writing, art generator, and now most recently- Jasperchat as just a part of their features (see full review here).

As they were recently valued at 1.5 billion dollars, they’ve invested a ton of resources in refining their language models.

Chat Overview:

Simply type in what you’re looking for (create a twitter caption, write a long-form article on xyz) and watch the magic happen.

As you can see, Jasper is a pretty compelling writer which helps it when it comes to creative tasks like writing songs, poems, and engaging social media content.

JasperChat At A Glance:

  • Creates articles, social media posts, Facebook ad copy, short stories, etc.
  • It can also create AI art as it utilizes Jasper AI art generator.
  • Utilize GPT3 technology, updated with information from mid-2021.
  • Does not create code, solve math problems, create excel formulas, or do anything outside of generating content.

Verdict

Jasper Chat is great for writers and digital marketers that are looking to combine the features of a smart chatbot with an AI writer for high-quality content. If you’re looking for formulas and writing code, this isn’t your option.

2. ChatSonic

ChatSonic is one of the newest large language models on the block, created by Writesonic (an AI writing tool).

It’s unique among the competitors as it integrates with Google to give you up-to-date information. Even ChatGPT and other competitors can’t give you real-time knowledge when giving answers. Therefore, it’s limited when you’re trying to create content on current news or trends.

That’s where Chatsonic comes in. They claim to connect to Google’s knowledge graph to give you real-time data answers online from other ChatGPT alternatives.

And it works. I asked what teams were going to the Superbowl 2023, and here’s the response:

They also have voice commands, so you can get your answers much more quickly than having to type out your questions.

Features of ChatSonic:

  • Voice commands allow you to ask and get responses (similar to Alexa or Google). These voice responses save you a ton of time.
  • Utilizes GPT3 technology and integrates with Google search for real-time data
  • Connects with their AI art generator to create images (although their art generator has room for improvement)
  • Gives you references to where the information was gathered.
  • Available with a Google Chrome Browser Extension, Mobile App, and as an API to integrate with your platforms
  • Does not write code.
  • Takes a little while for the outputs to come out, and sometimes I would trial it, and nothing would generate at all.

It’s currently free, but there’s a limit of 25 inputs. You need to update their AI writer subscription for full access.

Verdict

With the mobile app, extension, voice commands, and real-time data, this one is quickly one of my favorite AI chatbots for content generation. The biggest drawback is it can be sluggish and lag, so hopefully, that improves over time.

3. YouChat

When it comes to using a search engine, most of us are just familiar with Google, Yahoo, and Bing. But You.com is an AI-combined version of a search engine, AI code writer, and art generator. It’s currently still in its beta mode, so we’ll see how it improves over time.

Recently, they released YouChat to help you write prompts, get your questions answered, and any other writing content you could need.

  • It’s FREE.
  • Still in beta mode, so there are definitely quirks to work out.

Verdict

YouChat is a great free option that helps you suggest ideas, content creation, and creates code. It’s limited to 2021 data, and the information still needs to be verified for accuracy, but it’s a fun tool to play with.

4. Sparrow

Okay, Sparrow hasn’t been released quite yet. But I would be remiss if I didn’t mention it as it will likely be the hottest ChatGPT alternative when it’s released, if not completely replace it.

Sparrow is being created by DeepMind, a company closely connected with Google. While we speculate that they have more than enough artificial intelligence capability to release it, there are a few key differences we are guessing they may have.

Here’s What We Know So Far:

  • It will likely be released late in 2023, per Tech Radar. 
  • Unlike ChatGPT, which utilizes all information on the web (including incorrect, biased, and misinformation), we speculate Sparrow will be a bit more “fine-tuned” to deliver accurate, reliable results to match the search intent of the user. The very core mission of Google itself from the beginning.

Verdict

Google is taking a much more conservative approach when it comes to releasing its ChatGPT alternative. But I don’t think it would come as any surprise if the slow turtle (or Sparrow?) wins the race against the hare (ChatGPT).

  • You should validate any information, as ChatGPT can give you wrong answers. You can’t fully rely on the information right now.
  • It doesn’t provide sources of where it got the information from.
  • Bias, racism, false information attacks… ChatGPT isn’t immune to these things because it learned from the world wide web, which is full of these things.
  • It can have a lot of difficulty with complicated concepts that require a lot of deep, complex understanding.

ChatGPT, while the most popular AI-powered chatbot at this time, is only one of a few out or coming very soon. Microsoft has heavily funded OpenAI’s version, but you can be certain Google and other major tech companies are investing in the same, if not better, version of their own.
