What Is PaintIt AI?

PaintIt AI is an AI-powered interior design tool that enables users to generate stunning images of the spaces they’re designing.

Using its state-of-the-art image generation technology, users can either design a room from scratch or they can upload an image of a pre-existing room to bring their design ideas to life.

Traditional interior design rendering once required days or weeks of manual work. But now, AI interior design tools like PaintIt AI generate room images in seconds, dramatically reducing the time from idea to mockup.

Whether you’re a real estate professional showcasing property potential or an expert designer presenting multiple concepts to clients, implementing an AI interior design tool will streamline your interior design process and move your workflow from design to approval faster than ever before.

Let’s take a look at how PaintIt AI has differentiated itself from its competitors:

Many AI interior design apps render an image of a space based on the design style and prompts you feed them. However, PaintIt AI takes that a step further:

  • Generates real furniture shopping recommendations to meet the design specifications.
  • Expertly considers the layout, furniture scale, functionality, and focal point within each design.
  • Allow you to choose from various styles to keep trial and error mockups in line with the final vision.
  • The Design AI widget enables you to import a small piece of code into your website, allowing users who visit your site to utilize PaintIt AI directly within the website. This is great for real estate sites, apartment sites, or other property management websites.

Key Features of PaintIt AI

PaintIt AI eliminates the complexity of traditional design workflows, delivering personalized design concepts in under a minute.

Core Design Features:

  • Design any interior space with its conversational design chat to create the perfect vision with its user-friendly, intuitive interface.
  • Get shopping recommendations for furniture within the image so you can mock up the costs of the redesign.
  • Create “Boards” to organize your designs by project. This makes it easy to make adjustments after getting feedback from a client, share collection ideas, and remix references.
  • Design Widget: If you have a website with properties, they have a widget you can install into your listings. This allows the potential buyer or renter to decorate the listed space with their personal style and generate an AI image to better imagine the space. Or, if you’re a furniture company, you can let your customers place your products directly into their real interiors to see how your items would look in their home before purchasing, helping reduce returns and boost conversions.
  • Define your space by choosing the room you’re designing (i.e, “living room”) and choose a style you’re after (“midcentury modern”) to help streamline the results.
  • Drop-in API & no-code widget allows brands and companies to utilize their technology in their own workflows and allow their customers to “try before you buy.”

Community & Inspiration Features:

  • Style-Finder Quiz: Create your signature look
  • The “Discover” tab allows you to explore other home designs created by people, providing inspiration.
  • When you find a design that you love, the platform recommends other designs that are similar but offer a different spin on the design.
  • Create a “Favorites” list where you can reference images you love, whether you designed them or someone else did.

How Does PaintIt AI Work? A Real Life Use Case in this PaintIt AI Review

Now that you have an idea of everything PaintIt AI offers, let’s take it for a real test drive.

Image of the original room:

Here’s the space we want to redesign. The space is a Casita that is being redesigned into a mother-in-law suite. It has a large window on the left, a blank wall interrupted by an exterior door, followed by another wall of cabinetry. This can make the layout more challenging than you’re typical room. I also love that this space already has pre-existing furniture, making it a better test for the software.

The Vision For the Room

My mother is currently redesigning this room, and as a client, here are the ways she describes her style:

  • She wants an “earthy feel” with natural woods and color tones throughout the room.
  • She wants to keep the existing furniture as it’s brand new.
  • Artwork is needed for decoration, and she doesn’t mind changing the paint color.
  • Struggles with the furniture layout of the room.

Here are some “Pinterest” images the client has given me as inspiration and direction for the space. This helped me understand the vision for the space, because with all AI, the more detailed and specific you can make your prompts, the better output that will be returned.

First PaintIt AI Rendering: How To Use PaintIt AI

Now that I have a photo of the room, along with some inspiration ideas from the client, I open up the PaintIt AI dashboard.

1. Upload a Photo of the Room

Open the dashboard and upload a photo of the room. I’ve tested various photos, and the best outputs are going to be with photos that are easily seen by the AI, so from a corner or head-on.

Also, make sure it’s a clear, wide-angle photo to make the most of it. You can only test one angle at a time, so keep this in mind.

2. Write Your First Prompt

Here is the prompt I used:

“The first photo is an existing room that we would like to redesign. The furniture will stay, but the layout can change. The design goal is for neutral colors and an earthy, contemporary feel. Design a living room space making the best use of furniture placement, decor, artwork, and design to match the homeowner’s vision.”

Here are the results that took about 35 seconds to render:

The living room has been redesigned with two cream sofas, a back console, wooden coffee table, and side tables.

Overall, I was very happy with the first rendering. It positioned the couch that I believe is most optimal to this space, which is complicated by an exterior door that’s slightly in the way. It kept to the earthy, warm tones that the client desired. But it also kept the actual room features intact, like the window behind the TV.

3. Make Additional Mockups or Edits:

Now, I want to apply some changes based on the inspiration designs the client gave me. I’ve prompted the AI, “Add an earthy tone rug like dark green or orange.” Here’s how it edited the image:

Casita redesign with a dark green rug.

However, I felt the dark green monotone rug was a bit overpowering. So I asked it to create a rug with a bit more design and earthy textures. It was able to achieve a much better balance.

Casita redesign with more natural rug.

This was a much better design.

I did try uploading a photo from one of the Pinterest images that was sent to me, and I asked it to “apply the design in the photo to the existing rendering,” but unfortunately, it did completely remodel the entire room. So I don’t recommend uploading inspiration photos unless you’re designing from scratch.

4. Share Your Designs

Once you’ve found one or even a few different designs you love, there are plenty of ways to share them.

  • Download the photo directly to your computer.
  • Add it to a “Board” or collection, where you can then send the entire collection over.
  • Share your design on social media platforms.

Now that you’ve seen the platform in action, let’s break down the pros and cons I experienced while spending a few hours mocking up dozens of room designs.

PaintIt AI Pros

Here is a list of the things I loved while testing out PaintIt AI.

  • User-friendly interface: For those used to using ChatGPT, it’s a very similar setup. Simply give the AI a prompt, and it will incorporate it into the next design mockup.
  • High-Resolution Image Renderings: Creates very nice, realistic images with couches and furniture that are the proper scale for the room.
  • Shopping Recommendations: Allows you to calculate total redesign costs with ease and gives you ideas on products you can currently purchase.
  • Board Organization: Easily manage all your projects with their “Boards” feature. It’s very intuitive for those who are accustomed to using Pinterest.

PaintIt AI Cons

Here are a few improvements that I would like to see made after my time testing the product:

  • Occasional Lag: Like many other platforms, it does take a bit of time to render the images, resulting in a slight lag.
  • Limited Product Choices: I wish it could showcase wallpaper and paint color features to help fully design the project.
  • No Direct Pinterest Import: It would be nice to import inspiration images, but fortunately, this feature is in the pipeline soon!

PaintIt AI and interior design tools can be incredibly useful for people across multiple industries.
