While I knew about the TikTok ban, somehow, I completely missed the memo that this would also include CapCut. Then, the same day, we heard about the official announcement about Edits, the Instagram video editing app, and the creator tool suite. As soon as I get my hands on this, I’ll break down an entire Edits Review, but in the meantime, here’s what we know.

I’ve been using Capcut for some time now, but I won’t lie that when I couldn’t log in to Capcut, where ALL my drafts are stored without backup, it had me looking into alternatives like InShot and some others.
But now with Edits, will we all need to pivot if we’re looking for higher Instagram engagement and insights?
I also just filmed a YouTube video of me snooping for more information, you can see that here.
What is Edits – The Instagram Video Editing App?
Here’s what we know so far from Instagram’s CEO Adam, with all information coming from a Reel he dropped on January 19th.
Preorder the app, will launch February per the video, but on the app store it will release March 13th, 2025.
Edits Tabs (Per the App Store)
From the preview of the snapshots below, we can see the similar video editing tracks were used to within the Instagram app and looks like the UI/UX will be easy to pick up.

What I find is going to be most important for creators is the new Instagram Insights. This is especially important for those looking to monetize their online business.
On the left is what the Edits app shows and on the right is what my business Instagram shows:

For someone looking to grow a brand new account, the insights are a lot prettier and easier to digest in the new Edits app. Engagement will be broken down between followers and non-followers, and something called a skip rate.
New Edits Features
Here’s some additional features that are shown in the app store:
That’s all we know for now! I’ll update this as soon as I get my hands on the new app when they release it. Happy content sharing!
