SEO strategies have significantly evolved in a short period of time, and with the progression of artificial technology, I don’t think we’ll see that plateau any time soon. Remember when you used to put “hidden keywords” in the article to help boost your rankings? Or purchase a bunch of domains to build links from? How about that good old-fashioned keyword stuffing?
Thank goodness, Google algorithm updates have pretty much thwarted these old SEO hacks and encouraged high-quality articles built on authority and qualitative knowledge maps.
Now that we’re about to embark on the AI revolution, any good SEO expert or digital marketer should be asking themselves a few questions before switching to any AI-powered platform:
Keeping those questions in mind, I’ve broken down all available AI SEO tools into categories based on their use. I’ve also tested the best SEO reporting options if you’re an agency needing to send a report for clients. Some platforms have one, two, or even all of these features I’ve described below.
So as you can see, AI SEO software will be an essential tool to optimize content and increase the ROI of your articles if it isn’t already. AI marketing tools today are a must. Scroll to the end, and I’ll spill the tea on what my current SEO tech stack is.
So without further ado, let’s get into the top AI SEO tools.

What are the Best AI SEO Tools on the Market?
Here are some of the best AI SEO tools for 2022.
Table of Contents:
Highest Quality SEO Optimizer
MarketMuse is an AI platform whose focus is on perfecting your on-page article SEO. With new content, it’s easy enough to start writing and following the keyword and heading prompts. For previously published articles, you can click “optimize,” choose your keyword and website URL, and then within a few minutes, it will give you a score and suggestions to optimize the post.
Some of the other features I like about MarketMuse are:
Pricing: They have a free version where you can try a few monthly queries. Otherwise, this platform will set you back $7200 a year (ouch), pricing out a lot of freelance writers.
MarketMuse claims to have a better optimizer, although I cannot say if it provides better ranking results that are meaningful. Uploading your entire site is great, but know you’ll have a hefty price tag to go with it.
Best SEO Optimizer for the Money
SurferSEO is a powerful AI SEO software that helps you with everything you could need when it comes to on-page SEO. It’s straightforward and so much fun to use. Open up the “Content Editor” and enter the keyword you wish to rank for. It will open up a “Google Doc” style writing area where you can let your creative writing skills flow.
On the right-hand side of the article, you will get real-time recommendations such as word count, heading, number of images, and paragraphs. It also gives you an idea of what keywords to include and the keyword density (how many times to use each keyword throughout the article).
Here’s an example of what this looks like:
This is just the primary function of SurferSEO, but there are a ton of other features to help your article move up the search rankings:
Pricing: They have a 7-day free trial available. There is a basic plan for $50/month, but honestly, if you’re a blogger or freelancer, you’ll likely need at least the Pro version.
SurferSEO is one of the tops AI SEO tools, and for a good reason- it continually gives you great on-page SEO content with a proven keyword strategy to outrank your competitors in a nice, easy-to-use interface.
Best Combo SEO Optimizer + Writer
Frase is another AI platform that combines content writing, on-page SEO optimization, and competitor research. But it’s important to know that Frase is, first and foremost, an AI writing tool and optimizer. Go to the “Create” tab and enter your keyword. Then you will have your writing document on the left-hand side with your optimizer on the right.
It will go through the top 10 SERPs, which you can manually change, and give you the word count, heading count, images, and links. There are also nice dropdowns to see what your competitors wrote about.
So overall, this seems very similar to MarketMuse and SurferSEO. Here are a couple of ways that Frase stands apart from the others:
Pricing: They do have a basic option for $45 a month, but what’s sneaky to me is the “SEO” additional features are another $35 a month. Many people will likely need the Teams version, which costs $115 a month. If you tack on the $35 a month, you’re at a total of $150 per month, which is actually reasonable considering your getting an AI content writer PLUS a content optimizer.
Frase has a lot going for it: a great content writer, a good SEO optimizer, and additional features like content briefs. This is a great option if you’re looking for a writer and optimizer combination.
Best for Overall SEO Strategy
Outranking.io is a much larger, all-inclusive SEO tool. Like many of the others, it helps with your content strategy, AI writing, and optimization to outrank your competitors.
But where Outranking really shines is its SEO Content Strategy features. This is one of the first artificial intelligence SEO tools where I’ve seen a platform recommending topics that you should write for based on the likelihood that you will rank. To gain this, you will connect your Google Search Console and then let the AI create your strategy for you. This is a pretty big game changer, as most people manually write out their content calendar. Now, this tool will prioritize which articles should be written first.
Here are some of Outranking’s other features it has going for it:
Pricing: To be honest, Outranking.io is very affordable, considering everything you get.
Overall, Outranking.io is great at making SEO recommendations to boost your overall rankings and, in the end, increase your organic traffic with a measurable marketing strategy. I think it’s one of the best to create for an overall AI SEO Strategy.
Best SEO Reporting Software
SerpStat prides itself on being one of the best “All-in-One” tools, and it does live up to the hype. They’ve essentially taken the dozens of processes that are involved in SEO (like SEO content creation, internal linking, optimization, and ranking) that you would normally use in traditional software and create one friendly user interface.
They do this with their “5 Modules”: Rank Tracking, Backlink Analysis, Keyword Research, Site Audit, and Competitor Research. It is a smart tool to keep track of your projects and provides reports on your efforts. This analytic tool is used by some major enterprises like Samsung, Uber, and Shopify.
Here are some of the cool things you get with SerpStat that you won’t get with anything else:
Pricing: Surprisingly, the platform is very reasonably priced. As this article is being released, you can jump in on their summer discounts.
This is a great SEO Reporting software that automates and analyzes the data for you, so you can spend more time creating content. If you’re a large enterprise, this is going to be a must to keep up with others in your niche.
Best for AI Writing
Now, although Jasper.AI is more of a content writing tool than an SEO tool, I had to include it thanks to their partnership with SurferSEO. It has tremendous Natural Language Processing (NLP) skills which lend themselves to being an effective and engaging writer.
And we all know, one way to increase your SEO rankings is to create informational content around a particular topic. Using an AI writer will increase the speed of your content creation so you can quickly become a topic authority.
Here are a few of the features you get with Jasper.AI:
Pricing: The price changes depending on how many words you generate per month. But you’ll typically spend around $50-80 bucks a month.
Jasper.AI is a fantastic tool for content creation, and thanks to their partnership with SurferSEO, you can now get your content to rank as well. If you’re looking for a tool to help with your SEO strategy, this is a great option.
Best for a Custom Knowledge Graph
WordLift is an entirely different type of AI tool. You have a few options, including installing a plug-in for WordPress if you utilize WordPress or integrate with your CMS if it’s hosted through them. For each article, you identify the What, Who, Where, and When. By doing this, you are, in essence, creating your website “vocabulary” so that search engines can understand your articles better.
This is a great use of artificial intelligence because you’re essentially building your own custom knowledge graph. This way, you’re not relying on the search engine to do this for you, and better rankings with higher organic traffic are the results.
There are a ton of other unique features as well:
Pricing: You can get these widgets and internal linking at a starting cost of 50 Euros a month.
Overall, it’s a great way to create your own vocabulary and knowledge graph for search engines. It’s relatively newer, so the return on investment of this tool is still undecided.
Best for E-Commerce
Alli is a completely different AI SEO platform that has the ambitious goal of having companies bid farewell to their digital marketing agency and bring it in-house with the help of their tool.
How it works is that you add the HTML snippet to your website. Then, depending on the plan you choose, Alli will crawl your site daily or weekly and give you a full report of recommendations to change within your site. You can then accept the code change recommendations, and within minutes you can have thousands of code changes made without needing a single web developer.
Here are some other ways Alli helps companies out:
Pricing: You’re going to pay for this one, starting at $250 per month. But this is quite the bargain if it replaces your SEO agency.
If you’re a large site or e-commerce platform that needs site corrections as part of your technical SEO strategy, then Alli will meet your needs.
